Dahlia using kanzashi technique – master class

Here's what we need to make it:

  • satin ribbon 2.5 cm wide;
  • glue gun;
  • scissors;
  • glue;
  • ruler;
  • the basis;
  • center for the flower;
  • lighter or candle.

Let's start making:

  1. We cut the satin ribbon into 6 cm strips, 36 pieces in total.
  2. Take one strip and fold it in half with the wrong side facing in.
  3. Now we cut off the corner and process the edge (that is, carefully burn it with a candle or lighter).
  4. This is what we should get.
  5. We fold one corner of this petal towards the middle, then the second and process it so that the corners do not diverge.
  6. It turns out to be such a petal. We repeat the manipulations with all the stripes and get 36 petals. Try to keep all the petals as similar in size and shape as possible.
  7. Now we make the base: cut out a circle from thick fabric 2-3 cm in diameter to match the color of the flower.
  8. We can start collecting the flower. We glue 12 petals (first row) onto the base.
  9. Glue the second row on top between the petals.
  10. We also glue the third row between the petals.
  11. All that remains is to glue the decorative center.

Our dahlia kanzashi made from ribbons is ready, as you can see, it’s not that difficult to make. With this flower we can decorate a headband, a hair clip or elastic band, a headband, or use the flower to decorate clothes.

The ribbon flower proposed in this lesson, made using the kanzashi technique, resembles a lush dahlia in appearance. You will not find such an original copy on sale; you can only make it yourself. To do this, we present in detail all stages of implementation. The highlight of the product is the harmonious combination of shades: the color smoothly transitions from dark green to light green. A bright dahlia will perfectly decorate a bag or belt, or become a decoration for hair or interior design.

To make a dahlia with a diameter of 14 cm, prepare the following:

  • Dark green satin ribbon 2.5 cm wide - 2.4 m.
  • Light green satin ribbon 2.5 cm wide - 1.5 m.
  • Light green satin ribbon 2.5 cm wide - 1.75 m.
  • Golden brocade ribbon 5 cm wide - 0.3 m.
  • Decorative stamens with yellow tips – 15 pieces.
  • Hot-melt gun and glue for it.
  • Sharpened scissors with straight and curved blades.
  • Lighter/candle.
  • White or green felt - a circle 4 cm in diameter.

How to make dahlia kanzashi from satin ribbons:

  1. Cut three types of 2.5 cm ribbons into pieces to create the required number of petals in the form of thin tubes. Cut 48 rectangles 5 cm long from dark green satin, all other pieces should be the same length. 30 light green parts are needed, and 35 light green parts.
  2. Using curved scissors, cut each piece so that you get a blank for the petal. All cuts must be refined using a lighter flame. You should also additionally singe the edges of the petals and stretch the warm fabric to obtain a wavy effect. The photo shows the lines that should be followed during further processing of the workpieces. Mentally dividing the straight side of each petal into three parts, bend the outer edges and glue them overlapping, forming tubes.
  3. Prepare 48 dark green tubes for the bottom of the flower. There should be 30 light green ones. Light green – 35 elements.
  4. The brocade ribbon will make the finished product sparkle. Cut the 5 cm wide tape into 12 pieces, retreating 2.5 cm. Cut off one of the edges. The resulting pieces should be disassembled into separate threads. To do this, pull out the transverse threads from the blanks. But leave a few threads at the remaining edge so that the workpiece does not fall apart.

  5. Cut out a circle from felt. This will become the base of the dahlia.
  6. Start attaching the petals, distributing them evenly around the circumference. In the first step, use dark green parts.
  7. Fill the entire space with the first layer. The petals of the initial tier (there will be 16 of them) must be placed at the very edge of the circle, retreating by 4-5 cm.
  8. Attach the second layer of the same number of petals on top, without retreating to the center, but moving the elements to the side in a checkerboard pattern.

  9. Glue 4 pieces of fluffed brocade ribbon in the next tier around the circumference. Clearly align the golden layer with the dark green, do not retreat to the center of the composition.
  10. Glue the last dark green layer of 16 petals on top. Attach the light green tier of 16 pieces, moving the pieces 2mm towards the center.
  11. Add a second portion of brocade (4 fluffed elements).
  12. Divide the remaining light green petals into two parts of 7 pieces and glue them on top, moving 2 mm to the center.

  13. Prepare the stamens with yellow tips.
  14. Fold each one in half and glue it to the yellow piece.
  15. Glue 20 light green petals without stamens to the central part of the flower, moving the lightest layer to the center. Divide into two portions of 10 pieces and glue, moving the parts in a checkerboard pattern. Add the remaining brocade.
  16. Glue the petals with stamens into a single flower. Glue the stamens as the center part of the dahlia.

* Satin ribbon 5 cm green
* Large bead.
* Glue.
* Scissors.
* Tweezers.

Method for making a dahlia from a satin ribbon:
We take a satin ribbon of the color we need and cut it into rectangles 3.5 - 4 cm. To make the middle of Olga, 52 pieces were required. rectangles.

We process all the edges of the blanks with a lighter, then bend them in half with the front side inward.

The top corner needs to be bent evenly towards the middle.

We turn it over and bend the second corner in the same way towards the middle. Make sure everything turns out smooth and beautiful.

Take a lighter and solder the edge so that not only the edges of the corners are soldered, but you also get a fold on the front side.

This is the fold you should get on the front side of our petal.

Now we bend the bottom edge towards the middle.

We also bend the second side towards the middle.

Bend it in half and solder the bottom of the petal.

This is the petal we should get for making a dahlia.

This is what the reverse side of our petal will look like.

Thus we make all 52 pieces. petals for making the center.

Take a satin ribbon and cut 26 pieces. rectangles 4.5 cm - 5 cm.

Now we begin to process the edges of the petals. We do the top exactly the same way as we did for the middle. And we bend the bottom towards the middle and solder it evenly.

These are the petals we got.

We make exactly the same petals.

Now we take a 2 cm bead and begin to glue our smallest petals onto it. If you take a smaller bead, then you need to make the petals for our dahlia even shorter.

In this way we glue all 52 petals. This is what we got in the middle.

The largest petals remain, glue them and get a beautiful dahlia from a satin ribbon.

All that remains is to find this one wonderful flower application, can be used as a hair decoration, or as just flowers for the interior. Olga glued the dahlia to an artificial branch.

The art of kanzashi originated in medieval Japan, where every lady wore massive jewelry made from precious pieces of Chinese silk. Each element had a deep sacred meaning - the color, the size, and the number of decorations in the hairstyle were important. Once in Europe, ancient art was transformed and ceased to be of a religious nature. Modern kanzashi art involves the creation of jewelry for hairstyles, hairpins, headbands, brooches, and interior items. We invite you to master a master class on dahlias made from satin ribbon, which replaced traditional pieces of silk. The created artificial buds can be used to make hairpins or brooches, or to make curtain tiebacks. This entertaining activity will not leave you indifferent and will bring a lot of pleasure.

A little about the flower

Dahlia is a guest from sunny Mexico. Surprisingly, we are accustomed to this plant as a beautiful inhabitant of the garden, and the ancient Indians used its rhizomes to prepare various dishes and treat serious diseases. The hollow stems of the dahlia, or dahlia as it is otherwise known, were used to float underwater as breathing tubes.

When European conquerors arrived in America, the Indians introduced them to dalia as a food crop. The samples brought to Europe did not arouse the appetite even among gourmets from France, but gardeners were very fond of the multi-colored heads of the plant. Breeders used the botanical species to produce a mass of hybrids. At the moment, there are over 15 thousand varieties of amazing dahlia. They are selected into groups depending on the structure of the flower basket. The most popular are pompom, spherical and needle-shaped dahlias.

And one more interesting fact about the Mexican guest. We are used to seeing bushes from 40 to 150 cm in height, decorated with bright heads. But in nature there is a wild species, Dalia Imperialis, whose height reaches 6 meters!

Needle dalia

We invite you to study a master class on making a fancy blue needle dahlia flower. Why fantasy? The fact is that dahlias with blue buds do not exist in nature, and the work of breeders in this area has not yet been crowned with success.

To create a flower you will need:

  • sharp scissors;
  • tweezers;
  • round felt base;
  • candle;

The number of flower petals you will make depends on the desired size of the bud.

Cut the blue ribbon into 10 cm long rectangles.

Fold by long side facing inward. Remove a piece at an angle to the fold as shown in the photo.

Melt the edges of the resulting part by soldering them together.

Turn it inside out, turn it away from you and fold both edges towards the middle.

Connect the edges by heating over the flame of a candle or lighter.

Tuck the protruding center inside. The petal is ready.

Prepare the required number of elements and begin assembly.

Carefully glue the first row of blue petals to the felt circle.

Arrange the second row of the whisk in a checkerboard pattern.

Glue beads and satin ribbons of a contrasting shade into the middle of the bud.

The fancy blue dalia is ready! It will make a luxurious brooch; you just need to attach the appropriate fittings to the base.

Each subsequent row should fill the empty spaces of the previous one.

The last petals are attached with glue.

To hide the middle, glue a large bead.
