This unique series of hippos was released in August 2002 in Germany. A one-of-a-kind licensed symbiosis of the cult film and the most popular and beloved theme in Kinder Surprise toys. Perhaps, Star Wars Behemoths is one of the few series released under a license that did not strive to accurately reproduce the characters of the film, but, on the contrary, endowed them with the properties and characters exclusively of its brainchild, taking as a basis only the idea, but not the appearance.

The most striking and sensational figure in this series was the Black Edition of the Dark Laser hippopotamus.

Firstly, this is the first variant toy in the history of Kinder Surprise, certified, so to speak, officially - a separate insert was issued for it, with an overall picture the same as that of the entire series, but on the individual side it differs from the blue hippopotamus by the presence of a background in the form planets, marked "Black Edition" and a slight difference in the description.

Secondly, this toy is very rare - there were rumors that it was found only once in 400 eggs. Of course, this led to a huge jump in the price of the toy - without the insert, its cost in Germany reached 20 euros. Today at auctions the price sometimes goes beyond 50.

Thirdly, such a huge increase in prices provoked the massive emergence of counterfeits. Already in October (two months after the release of the series), offers for the sale of fake toys appeared on e-bay. Firstly, the hippopotamus itself was forged (I must say that the soil for this is excellent - just take a blue toy and repaint it), and secondly, the sword was forged, which is very often lost. In general, already in 2002, according to rough estimates, there were about 10,000 fakes! In addition to the problems with hippopotamus No. 1 described on the page, there is also a partially similar problem with toy No. 7 - it also often loses its sword. All other toys are intact and, despite the fact that the series was only released in Germany, they can be found in exchanges. Only the smoke from hippopotamus No. 9 is removed, but it is fixed quite firmly, and, as a rule, is no longer separated from the toy.

How to spot a fake Dark Laser BE (Black Edition)

Of course, the degree of quality of fakes can be very different and it largely determines how difficult it is to recognize a fake. Some fakes immediately catch your eye, while others need to be studied long and carefully.

First of all, if you set out to buy a Dark Laser BE, I would advise you to do this exclusively from trusted dealers, but under no circumstances on e-bay. The insert is an indirect proof of the originality of the toy, so without it the figure is valued much lower, although it can also be faked

Sword

First, let's look at the sword, since this problem can affect not only fans of rare variants, but also any collector who has collected the Star Wars series of behemoths. Firstly, the fake does not glow in UV rays (1). Secondly, a fake sword is usually a little longer (2) and lighter (3) than the original one. And thirdly, the handle is different - it is more matte and rougher.

Liner

There are very successful fakes of inserts - printed on the same paper, having all the necessary bends, and conveying colors quite accurately. But, since to create such a fake, the drawing must be re-shot, it turns out less clear and blurry. You may need a magnifying glass to examine the insert.

Fortunately, we have samples of inserts from other hippos - the front side, as well as many fragments of the back side, are similar to them. The easiest place to spot the fake is on the letter "R" next to the word "überraschung" (4). On the original insert it is clear and easy to read, on the fake one it is blurry. The boundaries of the black line surrounding this word are also blurred, as are many other subtleties that you can discover by carefully comparing the drawings.

In order to accurately recognize a fake, you need to know what types there are, and there are only three of them:

1) Rough coat of the blue parts of the hippopotamus with black paint (7)

2) Coating with paint exactly matching the original one

3) Creating a cast of the figure and painting it from scratch.

In the first case, you can easily and immediately distinguish a fake - if you see a pitch-black hippopotamus, know: this is 100% fake, since the original toy is gray.

In the second case, it is more difficult to identify a fake. Her distinguishing feature- a thick and uniform layer of paint. It is especially noticeable on the legs of the hippopotamus (6): on the fingers and knees the layer of paint should be a little less, in these places the layer should be a little lighter. It is impossible to do the same with a fake, since it is necessary to cover the entire blue layer. For the same reason, the relief loses its depth. Often the fake BE hippos were painted in a hurry, sometimes even the paint did not have time to dry properly. So pay attention to the eyes, ears and other parts where the gray paint touches another color. If it gets on the eyes, helmet or other parts, it is not an original toy (10). In the original, it’s the other way around: white eyes and black clothes were painted after the body, so these colors are more likely to fit on the gray than the gray gets on them (by the way, this moment is a little noticeable in the picture with the option above: pay attention to the hippo’s eye - the white paint has come out slightly to gray). And finally, the third way to check the authenticity of the toy is to scrape off some paint on the bottom of the paw (5). If the toy is genuine, a white base will immediately appear, to which there will be a smooth transition from the paint. On the fake figure we will see a blue layer of paint, and the edges will be sharp and clear. This is due to the lack of primer that covers the frame of the original toy, so on fake hippos the paint falls off in chunks.

By the way, this moment gives the hippopotamus one more feature: if any other toy is valued in perfect condition - without chips, scratches and abrasions, then in the case of the Dark Laser BE, such a small abrasion on the foot indicates the authenticity of the toy and is not considered a defect.

The third case is creation new toy. To do this, a cast is made from the original and poured new figure, which is then colored. In the case of such a fake, the paint layer turns out to be quite thin and all of the above qualities of the genuine toy are preserved. However, on the toy itself, the parts become a little thicker and the relief decreases. For example, this is noticeable on the stripe on the helmet (9). This is also noticeable on the buttons on the front - they become almost flat and can be separated solely with the help of a pattern. You can also find seams in such a fake (8).

The first day of spring was simply the happiest for me and my collection, because today I became the proud owner of another series, and what a one at that... Already according to my personal statistics, I counted that approximately 33% of people (one out of three) want this series, even though they are not collectors and that's for a reason, there really is something to want here! Now we will talk about "Star Wars Hippos", which dates back to 2002 and which, in my opinion, is the most successful series dedicated to the world "Star Wars". To be honest, I probably put this series down; it seems to me that it is one of the most successful in the history of Kinder Surprise. When I call a series successful, I mean, first of all, its quality, secondly, its beauty and cuteness, and thirdly, its collectible value. Based on all these aspects, I can confidently say that this series should have a place on the shelf of every self-respecting collector. This is history and this is the success of Ferrero.

After thinking a little and watching other series dedicated to the world "Star Wars", I realized that this series has no competitors in this direction and instead of releasing strange tadpoles and strange heads on flying saucers, which I will definitely talk to you about in another blog, it should have been released "Star Wars Bears", "Star Wars Dinosaurs","Star Wars Penguins" and a lot more that OBVIOUSLY would enjoy great success and respect from collectors! Even Russian designers could well release a series for Russia "Masha and the Bear Star Wars", I'm not kidding, there would definitely be enough characters in this amazing animated cartoon! And the kids would love it! And for adults! In general, I love everything that Russia produces, all the series are beautiful, we can do it! It's not even a matter of my patriotism; our designers really know a lot about things.

At this point, I’ll stop burdening you with my thoughts and dreams and talk about the series itself. The series, as you understand, turned out simply gorgeous, simply wonderful, simply amazing, I can attribute to this series absolutely all the synonyms that mean “good” and better, because it is for the sake of such series that one should become a collector, precisely because of these series, we love the Ferrero company, no matter how much it sometimes frightens us with its imagination! All toys are made of very high quality, painted very naturally, almost every one has some kind of peculiarity, because of which it causes wild delight in the beholder. All the figures are very stable, very bright, no two are the same! Each hippopotamus successfully plays the role of one or another character in the popular universe, I would love to watch a cartoon where they replay all parts of this film, I think it would turn out very cool and beautiful. Looking at this series, personally, my imagination begins to develop, willy-nilly, my mood rises, and ideas for creating new Kinder series pop into my head. I even regret that I don’t work among designers, I think that my ideas might be liked. By the way, on this occasion, I’m announcing new series blogs, which will be called , there I will fantasize about what series I would definitely add, what it would look like and its description. In general, I will dream about toys that don’t exist, no matter how sad it may sound.
After looking at the photo above and reading the description, don't you really want to decorate your home with these guys? This is now my favorite series in the collection, no matter how much I love and no matter how much I like the variety, no matter how touched, this series has occupied a very large part of my heart and I already doubt that something will ever happen Someday I'll like it even more. This is a very high quality and very beautiful series, really! In general, when starting to collect, you shouldn’t start with it, somehow, it seems to me that after it you won’t like other toys so much, but what am I talking about? You will like everything, there are a lot of beautiful series in Kinder, collect them in any order and you will always enjoy new toys!!! I guarantee it! I express my gratitude for the series Galina! The series insert turned out to be no less beautiful and promising; each character on the insert has their own and common story (similar to). The insert is made in dark colors, which is not very typical for Kinder, however, here these dark colors come in handy more than ever and they do not carry any negative character, it’s just that this is the universe, it’s dark in space, and these guys flew to us from there! Despite the beauty of this series, it was not difficult for me to make a rating, what's surprising is I only doubt the fourth and fifth places (well, I don’t know which one I prefer), so what? He got the simplest figurine, by the way, he is also the most unstable and the smallest however, this does not cause any problems. At the moment he is tweaking something in his suit, apparently something went wrong, oh those Ferreros, they couldn’t give him a high-quality suit, and they even captured it at the wrong moment. In general, the figure looks very futuristic and cool, it’s just that compared to the others he took tenth place, I think in other series only prizes would have awaited him (like the rest of his comrades!!!)
9	Hippoda	And here is the second character, meet the master Hippoda(yes, this is a clone of Master Yoda from the official universe). At the moment Hippoda very busy: monitoring the balance of the forces of light and darkness in the entire universe, probably, or maybe he just dozed off... every master needs sleep and this is natural! They decided to implement it with supposedly wearing a mask, otherwise it would be difficult to explain why half of the hippo’s head is green. Very cool implementation! Is sitting Hippoda on a stump, and from his facial expressions it is clear that at the moment he is saying “ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooollllll, you’d be meditating! 8	Aubacca	I give eighth place with confidence Aubakke(Chewbacca clone), which is also like Hippoda dressed in nice outfit, by which his hero is very easily recognized. What I like most about these toys is the cut between the face and the hood, which makes the toy very realistic, maybe not to the extent that it seems like it’s about to get up and leave, but at least the fact that the hood is put on top of the toy seems Well, very much! Aubacca- a very positive character, he has the biggest open smile in this series and it really radiates a ton of positive and pleasant energy! I think with such a comrade no one would die of boredom!!!
7	Princess Hippea	The only representative of the fair sex and the actress of Princess Leia takes seventh place. They did it very beautifully, the chamomile in the hair adds charm. You look at the character and understand - he’s kind! You can rely on him, so can she, she will never leave anyone in trouble and is always ready to challenge difficulties to help her comrades! She provides a very large counterbalance to the forces of darkness, and while she exists, Master Hippoda can sleep peacefully!
6	Django Jet	The behemoth replaying Jango Fett confidently takes sixth place in this rating; it is the only assembled toy in the series, not counting the insertable laser swords. Django Jet I received a very beautiful and impressive figurine, he pilots on his jet backpack, and under him you can see dust flying, it looks very beautiful and personally it gives me a lot of pleasure to look at this toy. I think every child and collector would be happy with such a figurine!
5	Obi-Wan Hippobee	Starts the top five - Obi-Wan Hippobee, raised it so high all because of the same cut between the hood and the head. Unlike Aubakki it looks even more natural and beautiful, in general, Obi-Wan deserved this place only because of the cape, which looks very cool. There is nothing special about the toy, well, just sit back and be ready to challenge any representative of the forces of darkness!
4	Happy Khan	Happy Khan takes fourth place with this is the only toy that I doubt, somehow they Obi-Wan Hippobi I like both of them very much, both are made very high quality and cool, but unlike their friend, Khan he looks very brutal and perky, his self-confident smile looks very cool, I think Hollywood actors have someone to learn from!
3	Dark/Dark Laser	And here is the most important representative dark side universe, reading his name, an imperial march should be playing in my head (even while I’m writing, I can clearly hear it). Dark Laser, the replaying Darth Vader looks very cool, this is one of the toys that made me start collecting. This is also one of the toys that makes this series appeal to non-collectors. In general, there are two options for such a toy, the first is the one I am describing - a blue hippopotamus in a black suit, familiar to Darth Vader, the second is a black hippopotamus in a black suit, the second is a rare toy and its price exceeds all reasonable limits, this toy is very popular and in great demand among collectors, I even heard that because of its popularity, people began to create fakes of it and pass it off as real, selling it at very favorable prices. Do you still think that collecting kinders is a child’s idea?!? Not at all!
2	Luke Eywalker	And here is the most important toy, because of which I started collecting the series - Luke, I'm surprised that it's not in first place, as it turns out, I really underestimated another toy that you'll get to know in the next 5 minutes. Luke- a Jedi, therefore kind, he stands, ready to attack with his blue sword Dark Laser(who, by the way, has a red sword). Luke's serious attitude is hidden by his sweet smile, because of this smile I bought into this series. Do you believe it? Because of a beautiful smile in one episode, I became the owner of ten toys! And I don’t regret it one bit! There is no happier person than me! At least today for sure!
1	Urzvo Hippo	And here it is!!! First place! Expected for many, it takes Urzvo Hippo. Most likely, this is the youngest actor among the hippos and he got far from the easiest role. This toy is simply thought out! Look at his legs, they have strange iron slates that are needed to glide along the surface. Look, everything is done very well and thought out, there’s simply nothing to complain about here. Anyone can buy his sweet smile; the owners of this toy simply cannot be in a bad mood, because looking at it, it will definitely rise!

This is the series that fell into my hands today. I am very happy and my happiness cannot be described in words, this is the series I wanted, I received ten times more than I expected, all the characters are made of very high quality, beautiful and cute, everyone gives a smile and charges with positivity. Again, this is now my favorite episode of the collection and I highly doubt that will change anytime soon. Thank you for reading this blog.
