Nail tips, one of the simplest and quick ways getting beautiful artificial nails. After reading our article, you will learn about what is needed for nail extensions with tips, how to choose the right tip shape and how to glue them to your nails. The article also contains detailed step-by-step instruction for nail extensions.

What are tips and their history

Most girls know or have a rough idea of what tips are. Tips are frames shaped like a nail plate, made of plastic, nylon or polyflex.

The first plastic forms appeared back in the seventies; they were made by hand, so only noble people could wear beautiful artificial nails. They were the same length; due to the lack of manufacturing skills, the first tips were very thick and rough. Since 1974, mechanized production of tips began. Plastic heated to 150 degrees was poured into special metal molds. After cooling, the molds were opened and the finished tips were taken out.

Materials for tips

Over time, nail extensions using tips became very popular, so plastic frames began to be produced in large volumes. Tips are made from various materials Three types of substances are often used:

  1. Polyflex - frames made of this substance are often used when extending nails onto gel tips; this use is due to its fast and strong adhesion. The substance has good elastic properties and is not destroyed by acetone.
  2. ABS plastic - the name arose due to the components included in the substance, namely: acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene. ABS is the most common material used to make tips. The frames are durable, highly elastic and have good adhesion to extension materials.
  3. Nylon is an impact-resistant material that holds its shape well, has high elasticity, and is easy to model. However, nylon frames are not suitable for nail extensions with tips at home, since they are difficult to glue to the nail plate.

Regardless of what material the tips are made from, they must be of high quality. To check reliability, you can slightly bend one of the frames along the length.

If, after a slight bend, a white stripe appears in the center, then the tips are of poor quality.

Types of tips

Tips differ not only in the material from which they are made. They have different shapes and color scheme. To make nail extensions with tips easy, you should choose the right shape that suits a specific type of nail plate.

Tips forms

Tips are produced various shapes to create a specific nail design.

Varieties:

  1. Classic – have a smooth natural curve, suitable for almost all types of nails. Most often used by professionals. Often sold in packs of 50 copies, the cost is from 250 rubles.
  2. Straight - in this form of tips there is no contact zone, which is why they are also called non-contact tips. Due to the lack of a contact zone, they are often used for French design. For 150 rubles you can buy a set of 100 copies.
  3. Tapered tips - used to create nail shapes such as stiletto, bridget, and cat nails. The set includes 50 tips, you can buy a set for 150 rubles.
  4. Curved frames are indispensable for nail extensions using American style tips.
  5. Almond-shaped tips - used to quickly give the nail an almond shape. They are different lengths, most often do not have a contact zone, which makes it easier to create a French design. The price for 50 pieces varies from 100 rubles.

Each of the described types has a different length, which is written on the packaging. Manicurists use the maximum length of the tips; special clippers are used to change the length.

Color spectrum

In addition to the shape, the tips differ in color. Manufacturers produce a variety of colors to create the perfect manicure.

  • transparent - ideal for almost any design;
  • flesh or natural shade - to give nails a natural look;
  • colored - it’s easy to draw a picture without using the main color of varnish;
  • with a pattern - tips are used to quickly create beautiful manicure;
  • French tips for nail extensions - quickly create the perfect French manicure.

How to choose tips

Every girl wants her nail extensions to be as similar to natural nails as possible. In order to achieve this result, you should buy thin, but at the same time durable tips. The thicker the frame, the worse it will look on the nails. You should not skimp on the material; it is better to purchase tips from well-known companies so as not to end up with a fake.

When purchasing tips, you need to consider not only their length, but also their shape. The better the frame fits on the nail, the easier the extension process will be. If it is difficult to choose the appropriate size, then you can take slightly larger tips, apply them to the nail and use a file to remove excess edges.

When choosing tips, you should pay attention to the stop line, the length of the free edge and the contact zone. The free edge is thicker and longer than the contact zone. The stop line is a conditional separator between the contact zone and the free edge. The tip of the nail plate should rest against the stop line.

Tips should be cut with a tip cutter; do not use scissors or other cutting tools.

If the natural nail is slightly raised up, for convenience and a beautiful manicure, the free edge should be done middle length. For defects in the nail plate, it is best to use adhesive gel; it can fill cracks and grooves, smoothing out the natural nail.

Features of the contact zone

The contact zone is a thin part of the plastic frame, similar to a dimple. The recess should fit snugly against the nail and be in contact with it. Glue is applied to the contact area, only then the tip is glued to the nail plate.

The contact zone comes in different lengths. It varies from three to six millimeters. The shorter nail bed, the smaller the contact zone should be.

The contact zone can be:

  • with several slots;
  • round;
  • deep;
  • V – shaped;
  • small;
  • big.

During the extension process, the contact area is cut down. It is best to start nail extensions using tips at home with non-contact frames. In such types there is no possibility of design violation.

Liquid tips

Progress does not stand still. Since 2010, liquid tips for nail extensions have become widely used in the nail industry. Such frames are made from flexible polymer material. Liquid tips are called because they contain a gel that has a liquid structure. The molds are very durable and can be used up to 200 times.

To work with liquid tips, you do not need to buy additional glue and many forms; you just need to purchase a gel and a rotating ultraviolet lamp.

The box contains 50 tips, such a set costs from 1500 to 2500 rubles. One set lasts professionals almost two years. Liquid tips save not only the time allocated for extensions, but also money. For beginners, the online store has the opportunity to purchase complete sets, which contain not only tips, but also a suitable gel for extensions.

  2. Not suitable for people with wide nail plates.
  3. You need a turning lamp; when drying in a regular UV lamp, the gel may spread.

Acrylic

Acrylic is a durable, quick-drying material. Acrylic nails are elastic; after extensions, the nails turn out thin and look natural. When using acrylic at home, you need to choose a well-ventilated room, as the substance has a specific aroma.

Extension tools

Before you move on to creating an artificial nail using tips, you should check if you have all the tools at hand.

List of materials:

  • extension material – acrylic;
  • primer or degreaser;
  • liquid for dissolving acrylic - monomer, with a volume of at least 50 ml;
  • set of tips;
  • brush for applying acrylic powder;
  • nippers for cutting tips;

  • file with abrasiveness from 100 to 180 grit;
  • lint-free wipes;
  • alcohol or other disinfectant;
  • a jar with a lid will be needed for the monomer;
  • dust removal brush;
  • glue for tips;
  • oil or cuticle softener.

Instructions

Before you start doing any manicure, you should wash your hands well with antibacterial soap. If this is not possible, then the skin of the hands is treated with a disinfectant, alcohol or antiseptic.

Extension process:

  1. File the free edge of the natural nail.
  2. Remove cuticles using an orange stick.
  3. Remove with a file greasy shine from nails.
  4. Choose the right tip for each nail; the contact area should cover less than half of the nail plate.
  5. The numbering of tips starts with the number 1 and ends with the number 10, the first size is the widest, then the width decreases.
  6. Arrange the tips after selection in order.
  7. File down the edge of the contact area on each frame.
  8. Degrease the nail plate.
  9. Apply glue to the contact area and distribute it evenly.
  10. The tips should be held at an angle of 45 degrees to prevent the glue from spreading.
  11. Apply the tip so that the stop line is in contact with the tip of the natural nail.
  12. Press the frame onto the nail plate and hold until it holds firmly.
  13. Adjust the length of the free edge using a cutter.
  14. Using a file, give the frame the desired shape.
  15. Use a buff to reduce the boundary between the tip and the natural nail, so that when you run your finger along the plate you don’t feel any bumps.
  16. Mix acrylic powder with monomer until a plastic mass is obtained.
  17. Using a brush, evenly distribute the acrylic mass along the entire length of the nail.
  18. You can remove excess thickness with a nail file.
  19. Apply a fixative to the nail.

After the fixative has completely dried, the nails can be covered with a single-color varnish or a special design can be created. For beginners, it is better to use colorless acrylic for nail extensions with tips, and a light pink color is suitable for this. Extending nails with tips using acrylic is a very easy and simple procedure.

Gel

One of the main materials that nail art masters use to build up nail plates. The gel is easy to apply to the nail plate, it adheres well and does not dry out as quickly as acrylic. Therefore, nail extensions using gel tips will be an easy and fun procedure that even inexperienced nail technicians can handle.

Extension tools

The list of equipment needed for gel nail extensions is very similar to the list using acrylic powder. The only acrylic powder and monomer are replaced with gel, and instead of a jar for liquid, an ultraviolet lamp and liquid are purchased to remove the sticky layer.

You will need three types of gels: camouflage or modeling gel, base and finishing gel.

Instructions for beginners

Step-by-step gel nail extension on tips, the first 15 points are identical to acrylic extensions. You should file your nails, remove oily shine and push back the cuticles. Starting from point 16, nail extensions with gel tips will differ from acrylic designs.

Gel application steps:

  • open the jar of base gel;
  • drop the gel into the center of the nail plate;
  • distribute the material evenly over the entire surface of the nail, leaving 1 mm margins from the tank rollers and cuticle;
  • dry the nail under ultraviolet light for 3 minutes;
  • apply modeling or camouflage gel, leaving most of it in the stress area, in the cuticle area and on the free edge the layer of gel should be minimal;
  • dry the layer under the lamp for three minutes;
  • remove the sticky layer;
  • form nail arches;
  • using a file, make the free edge of the nail thinner;
  • clean the nail with a brush;
  • evenly distribute the gel finish over the nail;
  • polarize the nail for 2–3 minutes;
  • remove the sticky layer if the topcoat leaves it;
  • Apply oil or emollient to the cuticle.

The gel allows the nails to breathe, it does not have a specific odor, which is why this material is more popular in contrast to acrylic powder.

French design

French manicure has gained its popularity a long time ago and still holds a leading position. French nail design can be done using two methods:

  1. Express - quick nail extensions using French tips. To do this, you need to buy special tips with a drawn smile line. Stick them on the natural nail and cover with finishing gel.
  2. The standard creation of a French jacket involves the presence of a light pink camouflage gel. It is applied after the base coat to the entire surface of the nail. After drying and removing the sticky layer, a smile line is drawn with white gel. Finally, you need to apply a finishing coat.

Glitter extensions

If you want to make it bright, shiny manicure, then the modeling gel can be mixed with glitter. It must be applied in the same way as described in the step-by-step instructions. To give a more saturated color, you can apply two shiny layers. Dry each separately under a lamp.

Nail care

To make artificial nails look beautiful and last longer, you should monitor their condition. It is advisable to make the first correction two weeks after the extension. Subsequent ones can be delayed for three to four weeks, it all depends on the growth rate of the natural nail.

When working with chemicals and large amounts of water, it is advisable to wear gloves to prevent your nails from peeling off. Do not allow sudden changes in temperature, as the gel nail may crack. You need to remove polish from artificial nails with a liquid that does not contain acetone. Extended nails should not be banged on a table or other hard objects.

from extension onto forms

By looking at the table, you can understand which type of extension is best to use.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages:

  • rapid increase in length;
  • less chance of allergies;
  • ease of extension, which even a beginner in nail art can easily handle;
  • you can make smooth nails, even on deformed nail plates;
  • You can create an exclusive nail design of maximum length and various shapes.

Flaws:

  • it is difficult to achieve a natural look;
  • in the first stages, large expenditures of money are required;
  • Due to the thick free edge, artificial nails are inconvenient to use.

Many tools allow you to do this yourself at home, but there are some nuances, we will try to take them into account so that the work looks natural and impressive. Let's look at two ways to grow your nails at home using tips and gel polish.

How to properly extend nails using “tips”?

T ips is a special material for lengthening nails. Every girl in childhood always had “false” nails, which she applied to her own ones, and she got long nails.

Tips are a descendant of such false nails. Only they are not applied to the entire nail, but continue it from the widest point of the plate.

How to choose the right tips for your nails:

  • Choose thin tips. The material of the tip should be as close as possible to your nail plate, that is, the same thickness as the nail and the same elasticity;
  • Select the material in size more precisely to the size of your nails, otherwise the appearance of naturalness will be lost;
  • The shape of your nails is also important when choosing tips. If your nails are too flat or convex, choose tips specifically for this nail shape.

To build up your nails at home step by step, you should take not ordinary decorative gel polish, but the following consumables and tools:

  • A special UV lamp allows gel polish to harden much better and faster.
  • Special gel for extensions.
  • Tips and tip cutter.
  • Glue, brush, file with surfaces of varying abrasiveness.
  • Degreasing composition.

How to properly extend nails: tips + gel

  • Prepare your hands. It is necessary to wash them thoroughly with soap and treat them with an antiseptic. Too oily or dirty nails will not allow the extension glue to dry, and you will only waste material;
  • Now apply a little glue to the tip in the place where it will be applied to the nail;
  • After the tip has stuck, you can begin processing it and bringing it to the desired nail shape;
  • Apply a base layer of gel to the resulting nail and fix it with a UV lamp. Apply the gel according to the rules so that it lays down in an even thin layer;
  • After the gel has dried, give the nail the desired shape and remove any irregularities from the surface using a nail file;
  • Now you can cover the resulting nails with tone varnish and then with top coat.

In the world of the evolving beauty industry, new ways to create luxurious nails are emerging. Among girls and ladies, there is a growing demand for the procedure of extension with tips; with minimal costs, clients receive long and strong nails. Tips are a godsend for those with thin, brittle nails that just don’t want to grow back. The technology is simple, accessible even to those who have no relevant experience. This type of extension can also be done at home; necessary materials can be purchased at your nearest specialty store.

Extension with tips is much simpler than extension with forms, so beginners are recommended to start with it. There are two ways to add extensions to tips: using gel and using acrylic. Both techniques are in demand and have advantages and disadvantages. When applying gel extensions, you will need a manicure lamp: UV, LED or combined. The gel on the nail is adjusted with a brush before going to dry, and will not dry without a lamp. Accordingly, you can take your time to shape your nails. When building with acrylic, there is little time, as it dries quickly. Therefore, there is no room for error. But a lamp is not needed for this procedure - the acrylic dries on its own. Tip extensions in a salon cost an average of 1,500 rubles. Private masters at home are cheaper - from 800 rubles. But the technology does not require special education, so it is quite possible to carry out the procedure at home.

How to prepare your nails

Regardless of the chosen extension method, nail preparation will be the same. Need to:

  • Trim or push back cuticles.
  • Remove the length by removing the free edge of the nail.
  • Sand the surface with a buff or soft file.
  • Materials you will need:

  • tips different sizes;
  • special glue for tips;
  • type cutter;
  • antiseptic;
  • file with abrasiveness (hardness) 180/100 grit.
  • Photo gallery: materials for preparing nails before extensions

    Choose high-quality and elastic tips. To check the tip, squeeze it with your fingers along the edges. A flexible tip will give way, but will return to its original shape if you let it go, while a low-quality tip will show a stripe from the bend or it will even break under pressure. Tips are selected according to the shape and size of the nail, so it is recommended to use a set of 50 or 100 pieces. The more different types you have, the more accurately you will find the ones you need. Materials are distinguished by color: there are transparent, French, colored and patterned. They buy it thinking about the subsequent design, but there is no point in taking tips with a pattern: firstly, it will be covered with a thick layer of gel, and secondly, the pattern will only be on the tip, but not on the natural part of the nail. It is better to use transparent or French-styled ones. A tip cutter is a device similar to wire cutters. They remove excess length artificial nails

  • . Tips are glued as follows:
  • Hands are treated with antiseptic.
  • The tip is smoothly lowered onto the nail, and by pressing the air is squeezed out from under it. You must not allow an air pocket or gap to remain under the tip.
  • The glue dries in 5 seconds, but it is better to hold the tips a little longer.
  • The excess length is removed with a tip cutter, the nail is shaped with a hard file, and the junction of the artificial nail and the natural one is filed off. In this case, the living nail is not affected.
  • When there is no protruding joint left on the nail, the entire surface is sanded to remove the glossy shine.
  • The buff removes the remaining seam.
  • This is how the nails are prepared for further extensions.

    Gel extensions on tips

    There are single-phase, two-phase and three-phase gel extension systems. Each requires an appropriate number of gels. For three-phase, three types of gel are used, for two-phase - two, for single-phase - one type of gel. However, it is more convenient to use one gel for all systems, but if desired, you can resort to different types.

    Types of gels

    There are 4 main types of gels used in extensions:

  • single-phase transparent gel;
  • camouflage gel;
  • color gel;
  • stained glass gel.
  • Single-phase transparent gel is used more often than others in extensions, since it is convenient to use only one type of gel. When building with it, you need to file the nail to the desired shape and additional design. Camouflage gel is suitable for extensions using a two-phase system; you need to apply a layer first clear gel and then one or two layers of camo. With this method, you need to file down the nail to the desired shape, but it is not necessary to add a design, since the camouflage gel always has a pinkish tint. Colored gel is used in the design of extended nails, it can be used to create designs, French or cover the entire nail. Stained glass gel also serves for design, is final and self-leveling and has a translucent texture, which allows you to create an unusual manicure.

    Building process

    To extend your nails using gel, you will need:

  • UV, LED or combined lamp;
  • one or more types of extension gel;
  • cuticle oil;
  • file for giving shape to extended nails;
  • primer;
  • brushes for working with gel;
  • liquid for degreasing and removing stickiness.
  • Photo gallery: materials for gel extensions

    Having prepared everything you need, you can begin the extension process:

  • The prepared nail with the glued tip is degreased, the natural part of the nail is lubricated with primer.
  • After the primer has dried, a base layer of gel is applied at a distance of 0.5 mm from the cuticle.
  • The gel is dried in a lamp for the recommended time.
  • Then another layer of gel is applied; before drying, it is advisable to turn the nail over so that the gel is distributed evenly and does not flow down to the side rollers. After drying, this manipulation should be repeated by applying a third layer of gel.
  • The nail is dried, and an even shape of the nail is modeled with a file. The buff is used to level the surface and remove scratches. A special liquid removes dust and remaining sticky layer.
  • Oil is applied to the cuticle and nail and thoroughly rubbed into the surface.
  • This is how gel extensions are applied to tips. When applying the gel, pay attention to the stress zone of the nail - the place where the natural nail comes into contact with the tip. In this area, the gel layer should be the thickest, then the nail will be difficult to break. If desired, create a design using colored and stained glass gels.

    Acrylic extensions on tips

    To work with acrylic you will need materials:

  • liquid (monomer);
  • acrylic;
  • brush for acrylic extensions;
  • hard file;
  • degreasing liquid;
  • cuticle oil;
  • primer
  • Photo gallery: necessary items for acrylic extensions

    Liquid or monomer is a liquid that, when interacting with acrylic, allows you to create a substance for nail extension, and also helps the acrylic dry quickly.

    The brush for extensions is oblong, its fibers should be rigid and not be knocked out by individual hairs.

  • Acrylic extensions include the following steps:
  • Degrease the nail with the glued tip and apply primer to the natural part. If your hands are wet, you should go over the primer a second time.
  • The brush is lowered into the liquid, then a large ball of acrylic is placed on it.
  • The ball is placed on the nail directly near the cuticle and gradually pulled up to the tip with a brush. Acrylic should not get on the cuticle and side ridges.
  • After spreading the acrylic evenly over the nail, wait until it dries. In the open air, the composition dries in seconds.
  • Using a file, the nail is given the correct shape, after which scratches are removed with a buff and the surface is polished to a glossy shine.
  • Apply cuticle oil and rub into the nail and the area around it.

    In this way, extensions are carried out on tips using acrylic. When distributing the acrylic ball, the brush is periodically wetted in the activator so that the acrylic does not harden halfway through the process.

    Extension makes nails long and gives the desired shape. Of course, on strong and smooth nails you will want to experiment with the design - a delicate jacket, a romantic gradient, luxurious rhinestones combined with designs, a “marble” pattern or “broken glass”. There are many options. But it is not in every case advisable to apply gel polish to extended nails. After creating artificial nails, the plate becomes quite thick, and gel polish thickens the nail even more.

  • As a result, it looks unnatural. In this situation, do this:
  • When applying gel extensions, you can avoid applying a base layer for gel polish. There is no need for it, since the base is essentially the same gel, and it is already applied to the nail. Subsequent layers of colored gel and finish should be applied as thinly as possible so as not to thicken the nail to an unnatural size.
  • When applying gel polish to acrylic, do not neglect the base layer, but, again, all layers should be applied as thinly as possible. Since acrylic extensions do not thicken the nail as much as gel, a base coat will not make the nail too thick.

  • Otherwise, the design for extended nails is created using the same technology as for natural ones:
  • A base layer is applied to a grease-free nail and dried in a lamp.
  • Colored gel polish is applied and also polymerized in a lamp.
  • The nail is covered with top coat, dried and treated with a sticky layer remover after 20–30 seconds.

    Design examples Painting all your nails the same tone has long gone out of fashion. Nowadays, representatives of the fair sex strive for a unique design. Rhinestones, foil, drawings, stickers, three-dimensional patterns, rivets, and sparkles are used. Nails are painted in different colors, using matte and glossy finishes and their combinations. Popular in summer fresh ideas with drawings of fruits, flowers, palm trees. In winter, preference is given to iridescent decorations - rhinestones, sparkles, silver stripes, foil and everything that is associated with snow and ice.

    Designs such as French, marble and matte are relevant at any time of the year.

    Many girls leading an active lifestyle are concerned about using gel tips at home. I really want to be more beautiful than everyone else, but it’s difficult to find a few hours today to go to the salon. By learning how to properly perform gel nail extensions at home, you can save not only time, but also money. Moreover, there are step-by-step instructions that make everything possible.

    What are tips and how to use them?

    In the nail industry, tips are special ones that are close to the shape natural nails pieces of plastic that are glued to the nails to create the desired shape and length quickly, without waiting for the natural claws to grow back.

    Tips made of thin, elastic plastic are considered ideal. Of course, the material from which they are made must be non-toxic and hypoallergenic. Tips are made from various materials, for example, there are ABS tips, they are very durable. And there are products with nylon, they are more elastic, but take longer to stick.

    Tips consist of two parts: contact (will be in contact with the nail) and free zone (will form the length and shape of the manicure). Accordingly, the free zone tips can have different shapes and different bends. Artificial tips can be transparent, plain, colored or with a ready-made design, which greatly simplifies the manicure procedure, because then you don’t need to paint the plates, just cover them with a fixative gel.

    Advantages and disadvantages

    Tips are the basis for manicure. Acrylic or gel is usually applied to the nails.

    Of course, they have disadvantages:

    1. When building up, the tips may become a little flatter.
    2. They are difficult to file. Some shapes, such as side or edge, are simply impossible to do with them.
    3. Gel nails on tips cannot be pressed.

    But there are undoubtedly more advantages to gel nail extensions on tips:

    1. It's fast. The nail shape is already ready, so all that remains is to lay out the material and secure it. And if the tips have a ready-made design, then the extension procedure is reduced several times.
    2. Tips are a great option for brittle or painful nails. They can be glued even if the nail is broken at the root. They protect the nail plate from damage while they are on top. And experts say that nails grow faster under tips.
    3. The gel is odorless, does not affect the design, and is hypoallergenic.
    4. Plates extended with gel have a beautiful shine. They look expensive and elegant, even if a discreet design was chosen.
    5. Gel products can be removed, repainted, changed their shape, or even built up yourself at home.

    How to increase plates at home?

    To apply extensions at home, you will need an orange stick, a soft and hard nail file, a brush, scissors, gel, alcohol liquid, primer, glue, tips.

    The build-up includes the following steps:

    1. Preparing nails for extensions. Hands should be clean and nails should be free of grease. They need to be cut short and neat to fit the tip shape. There should be no cuticles or pieces of skin. Use a hard nail file to level the plate. Polish with a brush.
    2. Selection of tips. Good products are plastic. It is enough to bend them slightly lengthwise; if there is no white strip left, then they are suitable for extensions. It is necessary to ensure that the contact area coincides with the shape of the horny plate where it is planned to be glued.
    3. Gluing. To do this, just lubricate the contact area with special glue and press the tip for 15 seconds. Make sure there are no air bubbles under the plate.
    4. Sawdust. A rigid nail file is used to give the desired shape and adjust the length. Next, the step between the extended plate and the natural one is removed.
    5. Consolidation. It is necessary to brush off the dust after filing with a brush. Apply alcoholic liquid for degreasing, and then primer.
